Biochemicals Efficiency Engineer-Sewage

Position is responsible to assist the technology development department
in carrying out and implementing the development projects. The position
will be working with contractors and licensees. A key part of the role will
be to interface with all levels of personnel across the company's business
clients,
as well as working within and supporting the standards & innovation teams.
The first objective is to obtain proof of a new concept for an improved
aeration
process as the most energy efficient and practical aeration method for
sewage treatment with the conventional activated sludge process. This will
involve carrying out a series of planned experiments to optimise the oxygen
transfer efficiency. The investigation is aimed at acquiring the knowledge
necessary for developing a new range of highly efficient aerating devices
for
sewage treatment.
Basic Duties
-To assist with the development of new aerator design involving the
construction of an experimental bioreactor. The bioreactor will be designed
built and tested for sewage treatment with a capacity of 200 PE and to
meet a typical set of discharge consents.
- To determine factors affecting oxygen transfer efficiency and optimising
them for maximum oxygen transfer efficiency. The energy efficiency of the
device will be bench-marked against the control under various flow and load
conditions while maintaining the effluent quality within the discharge
consents.
-To produce a business case for a demonstration plant. Upon successful
showing of the proof of concept, a business case would be made for a
demonstration plant where a prototype system would be built and fitted to a
full scale sewage works.
-Provide expert analysis & interpretation of process data.
-Provide expert technical advice to operations as appropriate
-Provide technical support for licensees as necessary.
Qualifications: Basic Minimum Requirements
-Bachelors/Masters/Accredited University Degree or equivalent
in either Biochemical Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
- 10 or more years as a scientist / chemical engineer with related
practical experience with biological processes is essential,
particularly with suspended growth systems. Experience in process
development is preferred. The position will have a working knowledge
of the wastewater business practices, techniques, and policies,
preferably with some operational experience.
-The position will have or be working towards professional qualifications
or status.
-The position will have exellent analytical reasoning, project management
/ leadership role skills/ experience , influencing skills, and possibly
financial skills.
