Chief Executive Officer (CEO)-Construction
Albany, CA
Summary of Position
Position is affiliated with associated management and fundraising
priorities of an evolving enviromnetal 'green technology' construction
firm. Position will be responsible to answer to the Board of Directors.
The position of CEO is responsible to keep the organization/company's
mission and vision in the front row of key constituency groups (ie : public
agencies, builders, developers, donors and future 'green'
products suppliers & manufacturers) in order to promote sustainable
housing development practices. The CEO will cultivate an effective
fundraising campaign and is responsible for the organization/company's
consistent achievements , financial objectives, mission and strategic plan.
In program development and administration, the CEO's responsibilities
are to include:
Position works in coordination with the Director of Operations & Director
of Programs and the Board of Direcotrs to insure :
-A rolling 3 year strategic plan in concert with the Director of Programs
and the Board of Directors in management of programs and service quality
that sustains the positive reputation of the construction firm
-Manages financial solvency (cash flow) for short term &long term financial
requirements
-Responsible for optimum relations with members/ sponsors/ other
stakeholders
-Staff optimization, development and effective retention practices
-Provide leadership in developing program, organizational and financial
plans with the Board of Directors and staff/carry out plans and policies
authorized by the board.
-Ensure appropriate records and documents are maintained, and ensure
compliance with federal, state and local regulations.
-Maintains a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in
the
field.
-Foster collaboration and partnerships with various organizations that can
further the mission of green construction
-Support key policy and legislation that supports the company/organizations
mission and programs
-Cultivate small and large scale donors that will support the organization,
especially with unrestricted funds.
-Publicize the activities of the organization, its programs and goals.
-Establish and maintain sound working relationships and cooperative
arrangements with community stakeholders and building industry
representatives.
-Represent the programs and point of view of the organization to agencies,
organizations, and the general public.
-Staff Management Responsibilities :
-Responsible for the management, development and efficiency of staff,
including staff development.
-Oversee recruitment, employment, and release of all personnel, both paid
staff and interns.
- Ensure that job descriptions are developed, that regular performance
evaluations are held, and that sound human resource practices are in
place.
-See that an effective management team, with appropriate provision for
succession, is in place.
-Encourage staff and volunteer development and education, and assist program
staff in relating their specialized work to the total program of the firm
-Maintain a climate that attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff of
top quality people with appropriate professional development
opportunities.
-Expects and supports a diverse culture which is free of harassment and
discrimination.
- Budget and Finance Responsibilities:
-Responsible for developing and maintaining sound financial practices.
-Work with Staff, Finance Committee, and the Board in preparing a budget.
-Ensures the organization operates within budget guidelines.
-Ensures that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to
carry out its work.
-Jointly, with the president and secretary of the board of directors,
conduct official correspondence of the organization/ jointly, with
designated
officers, execute legal documents.
Qualifications: Basic Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in related field /Master-s Degree is preferred relative
to Sustainable Development, Business, Public Policy, Environmental
Management or other related field
Minimum 12 years staff management experience, minimum 6 of those in
non-profit sector, preferably some in for-profit sector
Proven track record raising funds for public and/or private institutions
Minimum 7 years building industry experience
4-6 years non-profit budget responsibility or for-profit profit and loss
responsibility
Familiarity with California's public sector and building industry.
Proven passion and commitment to green building and remodeling
Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
Skilled at speaking to large groups
Skilled at meeting facilitation
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Theposition must be able to travel to attend and present at
conferences, training and other events
