Lake Tahoe, located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains on the Nevada/California border, is the ultimate year-round vacation destination, with outdoor activities for all seasons. On the Nevada side of the border, casinos offer 24-hour gaming excitement. Lake Tahoe lodging options range from slope-side condos to mountain cabins to family-sized vacation rental homes.
Incline Village vacation rentals are convenient to ski resorts, sandy beaches, golf courses, casinos, and a variety of other activities.
With 182 ski trails and average annual snowfall of more than 400 inches, Lake Tahoe is a skier’s paradise. Lake Tahoe condos, cabins and vacation rentals are convenient to 15 downhill ski resorts and 10 cross-country ski centers. Other popular winter sports include snowboarding, snowshoeing, snowmobliling and sledding.
The largest Lake Tahoe ski resort, Heavenly Resort in Stateline, Nevada, has 30 lifts serving 91 runs on nine mountain peaks. Heavenly has the West Coast’s largest vertical drop at 3,500 feet. Alpine Meadows Ski Resort, in the Tahoe National Forest on Lake Tahoe’s North Shore, has 14 lifts serving more than 100 trails, with 25% novice and 40% intermediate level.
Guests of Lake Tahoe vacation rentals can enjoy a unique skiing experience at Squaw Valley, about 6 miles northwest of Tahoe City. The Squaw Valley ski resort, site of the 1960 winter Olympics, offers thousands of acres of open bowl skiing, rather than traditional ski trails. The 33 lifts are rated as beginner (25%), intermediate (45%) or expert (30%), based on the type of terrain that they access.
