Director of EH&S Department
Everett, MA
The Environmental Health & Safety Department provides various safety
services and establishes policies and procedures that help to achieve an
environment where our community can safely work, learn, teach,
conduct research and provide clinical services. Additionally, the EH&S
department contributes to supporting a strong and collaborative relationship
with nearby medical center , provides and receives certain safety services
from the these medical centers. The EH&S department is expected to achieve
its
objectives through implementation of "best practices," understanding and
effective communication of established compliance requirements,
collaboration
with clients/ customers and pro-active leadership on matters relating to
institutional
safety.
The Director of EH&S Department is responsible for leading a team of
professionals
who provide a variety of safety services . The key goal is to support and
maintain a
safe environment that contributes to the core mission of the organization.
As an established safety management professional, the position provides
pro-active leadership to ensure that the Safety Department staff are
effectively supported, trained, motivated and challenged to effectively
utilize its professional and financial resources. The ability to develop
methods to support informed decision-making is an essential skill for this
position. The position works to develop programs that comply with local,
state and federal regulations and contribute to the overall safety of the
organization and their clients. This is accomplished through the development
of a strategic vision of needs, implementation of best practices and
collaboration
and cooperation with clients and departments with whom we serve and
interact.
Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
-MBA / Master's degree in a relevant scientific or engineering field,
Occupational Safety, Risk Management in a safety-related discipline;
-In addition, a Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific or engineering
field,
Occupational Safety, Risk Management.
-12 years experience managing/supervising, or similar period of
progressively
responsible experience in an environmental health and safety organization.
-Proficient in Word, Excel, databases, understanding and experience with
financial management/budgeting software.
-Travel 20-30% locally, off hours at local community meetings, Infrequent
off-hours,
response to critical incidents is required.
-Capable of responding to various safety-related incidents
-Proven experience in OSHA/EPA and other safety related
regulations, knowledge and experience in BioSafety and Radiation Safety,
-Experience includes supervising a diverse team of professionals, budgeting
and project management responsibility
-Board certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene as a
Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or Certified Safety Professional
(CSP),
or other relevant professional certifications.
-Ability to meet CDC and DOJ requirements as Alternate Responsible Official
with access to select agents.
Additional / Preferred Qualifications :
-12 years managing/supervising, or similar period of progressively
responsible experience in an environmental health and safety organization
preferably in an academic / health care environment.
-Familiarity with NFPA standards and construction standards relative
to research labs.
-Strong working knowledge of federal, state and local regulations is
expected.
-Knowledge of relevant aspects of insurance and risk management in an
medical or hospital/ academic / institution environment especially relating
to
worker's compensation and occupation health programs.
-Experience managing regulatory inspections.
-Familiar with NIMS and ICS.
-Superior communications skills, both verbal and written, during routine as
well as challenging and crisis-related situations.
