Sr. Environmental Biologist of Coastal Projects
New Orleans, LA
The Sr. Environmental Biologist of Costal Projects is located in the New
Orleans office to join an integrated team of professional planners,
designers,
environmental scientists, and engineers to support coastal restoration and
redevelopment projects, smart growth planning, environmental permitting, and
NEPA documentation.
As a member of this team, you would contribute to company by:
• Planning and conducting work requiring judgment in the independent
evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation/modification of standard
techniques, procedures, and criteria pertaining to your specialty field
• Independently planning, scheduling, conducting, or coordinating detailed
phases of work in a part of a major project or in a total project of
moderate scope
• Managing tasks on large and small projects
• Assisting in the development of project strategy and recommendations
• Providing environmental expertise to project teams
• Supervising the work of a few engineers/ scientists/ planners,
technicians, draftsmen, or others who are assisting on assigned work, while
other positions may perform purely a technical role
• Assisting in the preparation of new business proposals and attending
interviews
• Working with environmental regulatory agencies, as appropriate
• Working within the City to produce Environmental Review Records in
compliance with HUD regulations through a phased capacity-building plan
(duties outlined below)
• Conducting environmental reviews, making preliminary determinations and/or
recommendations for project aggregation and review findings
The successful candidate will largely support restoration/recovery efforts
throughout Louisiana and Mississippi, and will be focused on environmental
resource assessment in coastal environments which could include but is not
limited to wetland and aquatic ecosystem restoration, shoreline and
hurricane protection, navigation, fisheries, permitting, and all activities
related to environmental permitting and the preparation of NEPA/EIS
documents.
Qualifications: Minimum Requirements
-Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, environmental science or policy,
geography, coastal geomorphology,
-7-10 years of relevant professional experience (described below)
A Master's degree in one of these fields is preferred, and can substitute
for
1 year of work experience.
Experience of 7 or more years in:
• Solid foundation in environmental management, restoration, and regulation
• Excellent technical writing and communication skills are critical
• Experience with environmental compliance and planning, including NEPA
documentation
• Familiarity with Louisiana geography and ecosystems is important
• An ability and desire to work in diverse team settings
• Experience with ESRI GIS platforms a plus
• Experience in executing environmental services for Community Development
Block Grant Funding (24 CFR Part 58) desirable.
