Stability Geotechnical Engineer - Mines
Thatcher, AZ
Manages and provides geotechnical project oversight and review
relating to outside consultants, pit slope water control, structural
geology, design slope angles and interfacing with mine design and
planning. Position will work under minimal supervision and is responsible
to oversee slope stability management functions including pit slope,
stockpile stability. Be site resource for geotechnical information/analysis.
Overall property slope management functions for pit slopes, stockpiles,
and tailings. Manage and review slope stability data collection, analysis
and remedial work including slope monitoring data processing, rock
strength parameters, geologic structures, slope control blast designs,
and slope angle reviews. Communicate accurate, timely and relevant
slope stability and geotechnical information to mine and site personnel.
Manage, conduct and communicate the results of inspections of pit walls,
stockpiles, and site access roads. Proactively seek improvements to
the safe mining of mine reserves relating to slope monitoring, slope
maintenance, slope and catch bench designs, blasting, geotechnical
data acquisition and analyses. Develop, maintain and implement
strategic plans to enhance the mine's slope stability program.
May represent the site on company sponsored steering teams related to
geotechnical or mine slope stability efforts. Show understanding in the
usage of appropriate software (MS Office, AutoCAD) and Geotechnical
data analysis, Mintec's MineSight (or equivalent). Perform other duties as
required.
Qualifications: Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
-B.S. Degree in appropriate Engineering discipline. Advanced degree or
Professional Engineering (PE) Certification is preferred.
-9-12 years engineering experience in an area or areas relevant to
assignment.
-Knowledge in the principles and practices of mining, mining
engineering and geotechnical applications in a hard rock open pit mine
environment.
-Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and
draw
valid conclusions.
-Skilled at researching, analyzing and communicating information of
considerable difficulty and develop appropriate conclusions and action
plans.
-Skilled in managing engineering projects related to an hard rock open pit
setting.
-Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing to a
diversely educated audience.
-Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and
safety
of yourself and others. Skilled in following safety practices and
recognizing hazards.
Pluses/ Preferred Qualifications
-M.S. Degree in Mining, Geological, Geotechnical Engineering or Geology (if
sufficient education, training or experience can be shown) with a minimum
-5-8 years of experience in hard rock mining relating to rock mechanics and
rock slope stability.
-Criteria/Conditions (specific background and skills)
-Positon requires performing work in a mine, outdoor, or manufacturing
plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses,
safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots,
protective clothing, gloves / any other protective equipment as required.
