Senior Process Development Manager

Process Research & Development Department

Senior Process Development Manager works with the Process
Development group within the  Research & Development organization,
and reports to the Process Development Engineering Automation
Manager. This position is responsible for the Company's Process
Development control systems in the Process R&D facility through design and
turnover.
Responsibilities include: providing Automation oversight to contract
automation staff, liaison with Corporate Automation Engineering for
R&D project delivery, and the coordination with internal automation
staff for data acquisition/control related to process equipment.
This person will support projects involving automation designs and
will ensure Facilities/PDE criteria for automation systems are
applied.  Expectation of travel and technical checks to execute
system acceptance tests that ensures automation system performance.
Job focus will be on innovative, efficient and cost effective
implementation of automation technologies to enable timely delivery
of the Company's line of products.

Responsible for the automation/instrumentation maintenance and
troubleshooting of: Fermentation, Centrifugation, Chromatography,
and Filtration operations in Process R&D.





Qualifications:

 

 

Education/Skills/Experience

Minimum, 6 Years in a leadership role to include:  communication
and leadership skills / success in customer support and
cross-functional collaboration will be useful for this position.
The successful candidate must utilize these skills to define project
objectives, plan project budgets, schedules and priorities, articulate
and effectively communicate project issues and status to project
team members, stakeholders and management. Additionally,
this person will have demonstrated success with project
engineers, contractors, and internal/external customers.

BS in Chemical Engineering or Electrical Engineering with real-time
process control emphasis. Minimum of 8 yrs of automation engineering
experience and track record of success will be considered essential
for this position.  Experience with several
biotechnology/pharmaceutical unit operations including:
fermentation, cell culture, centrifugation, chromatography,
filtration operations, and support utilities is essential.


Experience and expertise in one or more of the control system and
automation platforms is desirable:  Rockwell Automation/Allen
Bradley Systems, DeltaV, Invensys/Foxboro, GE iFix, OSI PI,
Aspentech IP.21, and Sartorius-B.Braun DCU controllers.  Expertise
in one or more control system platforms (DeltaV, ControlLogix, GE
iFIX) is required.  Responsible for automated system evaluations
with cost/benefit analysis, selection and management of vendors and
contractors, as well as use and improvement of corporate standards
and best practices.
Other skills that will be considered beneficial to normal job duties
include:
* S88 and S95 terminology and concept familiarity
* Design and operation of Data Acquisition systems
* Historians usage and trouble shooting
* ISA standards for P&IDs
* Electrical instrumentation wiring design
* Control panel design evaluation
* Process controller control strategy design
* Automation configuration changes to online/offline systems
* Design and support of instrumentation networks (Foundation
Fieldbus and DeviceNet)
