Sr. QC Scientist (manufacturing)
Cape Town, SA
Position is with a biotechnology company.
Main purpose of laboratory / manufacturing work is with a high throughput
molecular evolution technology platform to engineer and develop novel
enzymes
for DNA amplification. The products developed in the lab are then
manufactured
in-house, they conform to internationally acceptable standards of quality
and
are then sold on a global scale. The opportunity is to participate in the
initial
growth and success of the company in thier ever expanding efforts. Position
will work on Quality Control / PCR assays (PCR assay technologies to
provide
highly sensitive detection of DNA or RNA ) The company has a position of
Sr.
QC Scientist in the Manufacturing Department .
Summary & Responsibilities:
The successful applicant works within a manufacturing environment and
laboratory and will have the responsibility to perform the following tasks
for the company :
• Daily execution of PCR-based QC assays technologies
• Daily submission of QC reports
• Assistance with validation, optimization and development of QC assays.
• Assistance with other Manufacturing-related tasks as and when required.
Qualifications: Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
• Education Required : Masters Degree or equivalent
• The following skills and experience are minimum requirements for the
position, 10 or more years of experience is required in most or all
of the following areas listed below:
• Quality Control Science Experience
• A thorough understanding of the concepts associated with Quality Control
• The ability to perform PCR assays according to instructions in a
meticulous manner and within specified time frames.
• The ability to multitask, perform consistently under pressure and work
without supervision.
• A excellent theoretical knowledge and at least one year's practical
experience in PCR techniques, including analysis of PCR products by
agarose gel electrophoresis/ethidium bromide staining
• The computer skills required to compile QC reports in MSWord. This
includes basic skills in the handling and formatting of image (JPG)
files
and the use of Windows Explorer and Microsoft Excel.
• Good communication and personal task management skills and a
high level of self-motivation.
• A tertiary degree or diploma (2 year minimum) in Biological
Sciences/Technology, Biomedical Sciences / Technology
• Travel 10%
• Additional Information/Preferred Background :
• Experience in a Medical, Pathology, QC, GLP or other relevant
industrial/commercial laboratory is preferred
• Experience in real-time or qPCR is preferred
• Travel 10%
