The Director of Research & Development directs the Process, Research & Development Engineering -Departments that are responsible for providing leadership, strategic vision & strong management of their group's roles which include:
-Developing and partnering with other groups in implementing new technologies
in cell culture, fermentation, purification, material sciences & automation
-Providing automation support for the B6 and B7 pilot plants, including life
cycle planning
-Providing Process Research & Development expertise and support for large capital projects
(e.g. CCP-2, CCP-1 retooling, ECP-1)
- A key point of contact for Corporate Engineering
- Supporting pilot plant projects including equipment design and fabrication
- Partnering with Procurement for support their efforts, especially when dealing with new technologies
- Developing and managing relationships with vendors when evaluating new technologies
- Partnering with other Process Research & Development process departments and universities or research
institutes to pursue new technologies to meet key strategic needs
- Serve on relevant Process Research & Developemnt technology-related committees
- Support Quality investigations as appropriate
Skills/Education/Edxperience
- B.S. in engineering and a minimum of 12 years of relevant industrial experience
- 8 years minimum experience in managing groups of people
- Strong collaboration skills including demonstrated ability to build and maintain productive relationships across many functional areas
- Recognized expert and leader in bioprocess technologies and engineering
disciplines; familiarity with automation & simulation tools is highly desirable
- Superior communication skills and ability to influence key partners and
collaborators
- Demonstrated ability to lead innovation and change and drive for results
