Sr. Biosafety Officer
Loveland, CO

The Sr. Biosafety Officer position will assist with additional regulatory
requirements
and the expanding biosafety program.

Job Description:

Sr. Biosafety Officerpossess the professional competence necessary
to suggest and review specific activities and facilities for proper
biohazard control; apply relevant laws, regulations, standards and
guidelines; develop standard operating procedures; and be aware of community
attitudes and health and environmental considerations. Technical backgrounds
in microbiology and biochemistry, basic physical and biological sciences,
and knowledge of laboratory and clinical practices and safety, containment
equipment, and engineering principles pertaining to the design, operations
and maintenance of facility safeguards are needed. Finally he/she must be
able to communicate effectively with administrative, technical and support
personnel. Take measures necessary to ensure that all biohazardous
activities comply with the provisions of the biosafety handbook .Any audits
performed are completed by a designee of the Biosafety Officer.


Sr. Biosafety Officer reports to the Director of Environmental
Health Services and/or the Director  of Biosafety and  appropriate
support and  administrative officials  any significant   biosafety
problems, trends, violations  of guidelines  or  directives,
and of his/her  investigative  findings and recommendations
relating  to  active or potential accidents and/or illnesses.
Develop emergency plans for handling accidental spills and
personnel contamination and investigating laboratory accidents
involving infectious agents and/or recombinant DNA research. Develop a
comprehensive Occupational Health Program, in coordination with others in
EHS, to ensure that the safety and health of research personnel are
monitored
appropriately,  and that  all reasonable measures are  in place
to ensure and maintain a safe working environment.












Qualifications: Minimum Requirements:



MS or higher degree in Microbiology or a closely
related major . 7 or more years experience in Microbiological
Research or Biosafety or a combination of the  two .
Ability to qualify for approval to have access to Select Agents
through FBI security check (FD-961 form) . Ability to pass medical screening
for wearing respiration device and other biosafety gear . Willing to take 40
hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response certification course
(paid for by employer)



Additional Desired Qualities: . Experience with plant growth and/or zoonosis
.
Teaching experience . Training experience . Ability to communicate well
with peers and investigators . Ability to qualify within 4 years as a
Registered
Biosafety Professional or Certified Biological Safety Professional.
Ability to train investigators at the BSL-2 and -3 levels .
Ability to design and teach Biosafety training laboratory and
on-line units
