Environmental H & S Director

The ENVIRONMENTAL H&S Director will provide
innovative and strategic leadership in the delivery of
environmental health and safety (EHS) services. Will provide
expert direction in the areas of general health and safety, research and
laboratory safety, environmental programs, and renovation and construction
safety. Responsibilities will include ensuring compliance with all federal,
state, and local laws, regulations, rules, directives, and best practices
pertaining to health, safety, and the environment by developing and
implementing pertinent programs, policies, and procedures impacting the
Institute's dynamic research operations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Master's Degree in environmental health or related field and
9 years' experience managing a complex program of environmental
health and safety
(12 or more years of experience and a Ph.D. is preferred)
Working knowledge of National Institutes of Health (NIH) guidelines
for research involving recombinant DNA molecules
and the CDC & NIH biosafety in microbiological and
biomedical laboratories
experience developing and managing an active institutional
bio-safety committee and biological research registration,
review & approval program
significant experience managing personnel and projects
excellent judgment and ability to see the overall picture
attention to detail/ exemplary communication skills
including ability to write clearly and concisely, interact effectively
within a wide constituency, and participate in negotiation and dispute
resolution; and ability to develop and implement creative solutions to
unusual problems.
Certification as a biological safety professional or eligibility for certification
is highly desirable, but CIHs, CPEAs, and CSPs "may" be acceptable
alternatives/ self-motivated individual who can work both independently
and as a team member. Superior computer skills (Microsoft
Office) needed. Must be able to participate in an emergency
on-call program.
