Senior R&D Scientist - Refining
Glenview, IL
The scientist or engineer in this position will play a leading role in the
development
of new and/or improved heavy oil conversion technologies associated with the
company's refining business activities. The successful candidate will
develop new
process technology and catalysts for heavy oil and bitumen conversion and
will work
with other Senior Refining Technologists in the development of new
projects.Position
will be accountable for :
-Providing technical support of heavy oil conversion technologies, including
accountability for heavy oil conversion experiments and other new
technologies in the early stages of development, performed in the UOP pilot
plants.
-Lead or contribute as a member of new technology delivery teams for
internal
development projects /collaborations with external companies/ projects are
of
varied complexity, including continuous improvement of company's knowledge
base of fundamentals heavy oil processing technology ie: process
configuration,
reactor design, catalyst formulation, and reaction kinetics.
-Plan, champion / deliver assigned programs on budget, on time/ within
constraints
of agreed scope/ resources.
-Act as technical contact for company's marketing / sales in technology
areas of
expertise by providing commercial sales support for customer presentations,
design / operating requirements / technical papers.
-Manage the technical knowledge base for technology areas of expertise,
including
development of work processes/guidelines to facilitateknowledge management
/control.
-Evaluate and integrate developments in other technology areas for
applications in heavy oil conversion.
-Monitor industry changes in assigned technology area for either
opportunities or threats.
-Evaluate technical feasibility of proposed projects to improve the
company's
competitive position / provide recommendations for future projects in
assigned areas
Qualifications: Minimum Skills & Requirements
BS / MS Degree in Chemical Engineering
-12 years ( Minimum) experience in :
-Research and development in oil refining with an emphasis in
heavy oil conversion processes or Hydroprocessing technology.
-US employment authorization required.
-Experience with oil shale and or oil sands upgrading or Bitumen processing
is considered ideal.
-Experience in or in-depth knowledge of refinery operations and industrial
heavy oil conversion applications is desirable.

-Self-starting and demonstrated leadership aptitude is important
