Sr Utility Draft-Design Engineer

The Opportunity: The position is an opportunity to utilize design skills and work in a dynamic power industry environment.  This position offers the candidate the ability to work in a team atmosphere where they will be a key member to the design of engineering projects. Responsibilities: Work under the technical supervision of an engineer to gather data; prepare technical specifications; create detailed physical and electrical designs, bills of materials, and job estimates; and prepare CAD drawings and other project documentation. Provide engineering support to engineers and other Engineering Services support personnel. Complete assigned work within agreed upon schedule and budget to a high level of quality. Develop and maintain a high level of expertise in the detail design practices of SEL protection and automation systems. Develop and maintain a high level of knowledge of SEL equipment and solutions to electric power system protection and automation. Follow and improve applicable processes.

• Two-year degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience
  
• Minimum 5 years relevant experience with electrical system design; 8 years of relevant experience for the Senior Designer level
  
• Demonstrated competence in CADD drafting (AutoCAD or Microstation)
  
• Good speaking and writing skills
  
• Willing to travel
  
• Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
  
• Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
  
• Background checks satisfactory to SEL

• Experience being part of project teams
  
• Electrical utility, consulting or system integrator experience
  
• Knowledge of protective relay applications and/or automation applications
