Description: Lead Engineer, Maintenance Engineering
Provide technical support and direction on
efforts to plan, design, construct, operate and maintain the transmission
and distribution system to provide desired reliability levels. Acts as
project manager and works closely with management to ensure that the plans,
proposals and objectives of the group align with the goals and objectives of
the Company.
MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides field verification and certification of the performance of
newly installed power system protection equipment and complete protection
systems.
2. Performs complex engineering analyses to determine relay settings,
develop test macros, interrogate relay operations, and analyzing equipment
ratings, insulation coordination, grounding and lightning protection
requirements.
3. Provides technical expertise, direction and leadership for
substation maintenance relay technicians to ensure the safety and
reliability of the electric system.
4. Performs engineering economic studies and compares alternative
plans for system growth, improvements or enhancements.
5. Performs research and cost evaluation analysis on new product and
procedure technologies to ensure the lowest possible customer cost for the
service desired. The Engineer will support proposed maintenance and/or
replacement programs with the appropriate cost/benefit analyses. Specific
activities include maintenance program development, maintenance
specifications, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, equipment assessment,
technical support, maintenance practice development, and equipment
specifications for substation equipment including relays, control devices,
sectionalizers, reclosures and network protector relays
6. Provides quality assurance for material used in construction
activities and failure analysis for defective components or system and
equipment misoperations. The individual will assure that all compliance
related testing is carried out appropriately and reported as mandated.
7. Manages the identification and classification of capital
improvements and subsequent inclusion in the associated capital budget.
8. Oversees the completion of special investigations, assignments or
technical assistance, as required.
9. Performs additional activities such as development and delivery of
technical training, development of maintenance programs, maintenance
specifications and practices, equipment assessment, technical support, and
development of equipment specifications.
10. Coordinates the development of power delivery system reliability,
design and construction standards. This person will assist in consolidating
reliability and maintenance engineering for the New York companies. Further,
the Substation Maintenance Engineer will actively participate in the
activities of professional societies and industry related associations to
stay abreast of changes in the industry and advances in technology.
Qualifications: a.. Highly developed verbal and written communications skills.
b.. Effective in managing multiple priorities and an effective team
player.
Experience/Training:
a.. At least 5 years of experience in system protection engineering,
power system engineering or project management.
Certifications:
a.. Registration as a Professional Engineer is preferred.
Required Education: Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or
Electrical Technology or equivalent experience. MS or MBA preferred.
