Sr/ Electric Distribution Engineer

NY, Elmira

      Responsible for providing engineering expertise to Region, Service
Centers, and other Company personnel for the planning, design, operation and
maintenance of the Distribution system. Under limited supervision, prepares
specifications, performs engineering analyses, prepares construction
standards, evaluates materials, and determines solutions affecting the
electric distribution system to properly serve new loads. Assists in
ensuring efficient, reliable and safe operation of the distribution system,
and resolves technical issues affecting the
      distribution system. Designs various electrical systems of moderate
      size and complexity. Applies and codes & standards to insure
compliance with regulatory requirements.

      MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
      1. Plans and designs commercial/industrial/municipal, system
improvement, and highway relocation projects. Provides fuse-recloser
coordination service including the review and updating of coordination
schemes. Prepares detailed budgetary estimates.

      2. Completes analysis of distribution system reliability studies,
circuits performance, contingency plans, review capital budget project
proposals and determines corrective actions when applicable.

      3. Performs the acquisition, verification, and compilation of data,
which may include field investigations and/or audits to support studies,
reports, drawings, designs, company policies, procedures, and regulatory
requirements.

      4. Works as required on projects of moderate size and complexity.
Serves as project coordinator. Specifies technical aspects of contracts, bid
evaluation, recommendation of contractors, and administration of contract
terms and conditions. Specifies, inspects, and approves equipment and
materials. Evaluates and approves contractors invoices. Monitors
construction work to ensure conformance with plans and specifications and
engineering codes and practices. Monitors construction schedules to ensure
timely completion of work.

      5. May provide interpretation of Company policy for internal and
external customer groups (may including MPUC) on distribution related
issues. Assists customer service groups on power quality issues including
investigation, analysis and mitigation.

      6. Performs economic analyses of engineering alternatives for projects
as necessary.

      7. Performs flicker analysis for large customer motors. Analyzes the
impact of customer-interconnected distributed generation.

      8. Plans, designs, organizes, coordinates, and controls projects by
providing liaison with other sections, departments, divisions, vendors or
consultants, and coordinates with government agencies, customers, or other
utilities regarding matters of circuit design and maintenance.

      Experience/Training:
        a.. 4-5 years experience in electric delivery system related work.
        b.. Knowledge of distribution design.
        c.. Familiarity with accounting requirements in electrical
construction and equipments installation preferred.
      Required Education: BS or BT degree in electrical engineering or
related field.
